Washburn

Raoni Washburn is a writer, LGBTQ+ community activist, & podcast host from San Francisco, California. Raoni was born and raised in Sacramento, California, by strict conservative, Republican, closed-minded Christian parents and forced to grow up in the church. After years of brainwashing, it wasn't until Raoni finally came out of the closet in his late twenties and, five or so years later, moved to San Francisco in 2015 that he discovered who he truly was supposed to be as he maneuvered through the gayest city in the world. Because of his overbearing and forced Bible-thumping upbringing and the rejection that he faced from his own family after coming out as gay, combined with his excessive exposure to the Castro District of San Francisco in all its gay glory, Raoni felt compelled to share with the rest of the world the one thing they ignored about his life; what it's like to live as a gay man in a gay city. Otherwise known as what it's like "when life has you fucked in the head while being fucked from behind."

Raoni began his sexually explicit "exposé" writing in the now-retired blog formerly known as "Gay Walk Of Shame." In his gay version of "Sex and the City" style of journalism, Raoni told all the messy and salacious stories of his new gay life, experiencing hookup culture, dating, booze, and boys in San Francisco. As the writing progressed in the next couple of years, Raoni found that his sudden serious freelance writing career was beginning to gain momentum outside of the blog, segueing to the end of "Gay Walk Of Shame" once and for all to deter new clients from finding out about all the filth and fuckary he wrote about weekly. Raoni began experimenting with a more serious spin on LGBTQ+ blogging with a second blog entitled "A 'Gay' In The Life Of Raoni." But, Raoni found a severe lack of attention in his second attempt at publishing due to the sexless gay themes of the subject matter and found himself getting bored with the G-rated version of this blog.

In 2000 COVID-19 hit, and quarantine found Raoni bored and at a creative loss. The 2 failed attempts at blogging were put on hold. Furthermore, there was now no way for one to go out in the world and experience gay life to run back to a computer keyboard and report. Raoni was always a very outspoken and animated personality, so the idea of putting an end to all the sex stories was like turning off half of who he really was as a person. As for the second blog, Raoni felt that he should never have compromised and censored himself , and he was officially done writing things that he felt people wanted to read about but he didn't care about.

Deep within the thick of all the quarantine/COVID nightmare that was 2020, Raoni had his lightbulb moment and decided to create a podcast that would take the messy hungover sexcapades of the "Gay Walk Of Shame" side of his life and combine them with his "A 'Gay' In The Life Of Raoni" real life, and just like that "My Gay Exposé Podcast" was born. Raoni's aim for this show is to share the normalcy of his everyday gay life and experiences as a member of gay society. His continuous hope is that the show will serve to remind other gays out there that even though we may be desired by boys, that doesn't mean struggling with all of those life-long insecurities embedded by a fucked up conservative/Christian upbringing isn't an inevitable gay reality that can get in the way of gay life.

It took some time from 2020 to present day, to get his bossy power-bottom voice to kick in and take off to where it was finally heard and recognized by thousands of fans all over the world, but now Raoni is enjoying not only praise from peers and fans alike for his bold and candid ability to talk about all those gay topics that no one wants to talk about, and the creative nature and unique structure of the show, but My Gay Exposé Podcast is currently celebrating position #14 of the top 100 best LGBTQ+ Podcasts of all time!
